Place Moments

This ongoing series of paintings is inspired by particular encounters with natural landscapes in Northern Nevada and the Eastern Sierra. For most of my life, I assumed I’d be able to revisit places I loved. If I connected with a particular high alpine plateau or cattail filled wetland, I’d surely return next year. Then the Caldor and Tamarack fires burned lands I treasure. Now I don’t assume I can just go back. Time and place no longer feel separate but instead seem hybrid experiences, place moments.
